Your idea of a “design brief” may differ…

It never fails to amaze me that the inimitable L. Whyte can take an unintuitive, haphazard scribble in a rushed email, like this:

Pictured: the world’s worst brief. Well. Perhaps second to ‘less sexy Aladdin’.

And come back with this:

Pictured: actual real art.

I mean… wow. I thought the before picture was good – minimalistic, some helpful annotations pointing out the important details, that little bit of theme and context with the cobblestones… – but how much better is L’s version?

Erm, that was rhetorical. Don’t feel you have to answer that. Please.

But, really, it’s an incredible privilege to work with someone who can take your ideas and run with them – not to mention coming up with their own ideas which make the whole project better and funnier.

Bird poop. Never. Not. Funny.

L’s been making (gorgeous) artwork for some of the rooms in the game lately, and it’s so exciting to see everything start to take shape. I’m still plodding away building tools, and I can’t tell you how much it helps me push through the boring ugh-I-don’t-want-to-do-this bits of the project when L sends some incredible artwork or clever idea across to look at.

Actually – I can. A lot. It helps a lot.
